Your Resume and Applicant Tracking Systems

In recent webinars hosted by Quinncia.io I have had the following things about our advice to students and career seekers confirmed:

Do not use a fancy template, a simple single column word doc works best.

New info: If using Google docs, convert to docx or pdf before submitting as Google has unique code that doesn’t register with these engines. Make a new pdf from your doc regularly as pdf files degrade with repeated use.

Education, Certifications, and Experience are the most important subheadings

You may include a Skills section if sought after skills don’t fit your recent experience.

New info: those mentioned in your Letter of Application will be added to the inventory so don’t need to be duplicated here.

Only provide information appropriate to the position. In other words don’t answer questions that haven’t been asked.

New info: A 60% match rate of required qualifications and 25% of preferred is generally enough to get referred for human review. Note: don’t include things you cannot document.

DO NOT submit an AI generated document.

New info: AI is reading this, will recognize the coding and flag it. Feel free to ask AI to suggest how to align your experience to the position description but then type your own document using your voice or style.
